Huh !? File extensions are still hidden !? I thought that was a security risk and a bad practice !? What's wrong with a little file extension anyway? At a glance you know what it is without ambiguity.

Vista still hides File Extensions

A bad practice, yes. But let's weigh up the options.
Firstly, from a dummy's point of view, what is an extension? Nothing really. Who cares that a document ends in DOC (or for 2007, DOCX/DOCM), I just wanna open up my letter to Aunt Jane so I can tell her to send a batch of her famous chocalate chip cookies with her next letter before I forget.
Secondly, when they are renaming it, they usually forget the extension. The result is that they can't edit it anymore.
I always turn extensions back on again, but that's because you and me know what we're doing.
